Asymptotic Behavior of the Conductance in Disordered Wires with Perfectly Conducting Channels
نویسنده
چکیده
We study the conductance of disordered wires with unitary symmetry focusing on the case in which m perfectly conducting channels are present due to the channel-number imbalance between two-propagating directions. Using the exact solution of the Dorokhov-Mello-PereyraKumar (DMPK) equation for transmission eigenvalues, we obtain the average and second moment of the conductance in the long-wire regime. For comparison, we employ the threeedge Chalker-Coddington model as the simplest example of channel-number-imbalanced systems with m = 1, and obtain the average and second moment of the conductance by using a supersymmetry approach. We show that the result for the Chalker-Coddington model is identical to that obtained from the DMPK equation.

Random-Matrix Theory of Electron Transport in Disordered Wires with Symplectic Symmetry
The conductance of disordered wires with symplectic symmetry is studied by a randommatrix approach. It has been believed that Anderson localization inevitably arises in ordinary disordered wires. A counterexample is recently found in the systems with symplectic symmetry, where one perfectly conducting channel is present even in the long-wire limit when the number of conducting channels is odd. ...
متن کاملTransport properties in network models with perfectly conducting channels
We study the transport properties of disordered electron systems that contain perfectly conducting channels. Two quantum network models that belong to different universality classes, unitary and symplectic, are simulated numerically. The perfectly conducting channel in the unitary class can be realized in zigzag graphene nano-ribbons and that in the symplectic class is known to appear in metall...
متن کاملConductance and Its Variance of Disordered Wires with Symplectic Symmetry in the Metallic Regime
The conductance of disordered wires with symplectic symmetry is studied by a randommatrix approach. It has been shown that the behavior of the conductance in the long-wire limit crucially depends on whether the number of conducting channels is even or odd. We focus on the metallic regime where the wire length is much shorter than the localization length, and calculate the ensemble-averaged cond...
متن کاملWeakly-coupled quasi-1D helical modes in disordered 3D topological insulator quantum wires
Disorder remains a key limitation in the search for robust signatures of topological superconductivity in condensed matter. Whereas clean semiconducting quantum wires gave promising results discussed in terms of Majorana bound states, disorder makes the interpretation more complex. Quantum wires of 3D topological insulators offer a serious alternative due to their perfectly-transmitted mode. An...
متن کاملLuttinger-liquid behavior in weakly disordered quantum wires.
We have measured the temperature dependence of the conductance in long V-groove quantum wires fabricated in GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures. Our data are consistent with recent theories developed within the framework of the Luttinger-liquid model, in the limit of weakly disordered wires. We show that, for the relatively low level of disorder in our quantum wires, the value of the interaction param...
